The project was for a Pippy Oak bespoke handmade extending refectory table, commissioned by a family who is currently renovating an 18th Century cottage which is having a contemporary style kitchen fitted. They required something in keeping with the age and character of the cottage but also in fitting with the new inside style and decor.
The Project
My latest project was for an Oak extending Refectory table, commissioned by a family who is currently renovating an 18th Century cottage which is having a contemporary style kitchen fitted. They required something in keeping with the age and character of the cottage but also in fitting with the new inside style and decor.
Consultation
After consultation, we jointly agreed upon a traditional refectory style table in solid pippy English Oak with plenty of character but maintaining a clean line look rather than the more traditional rustic approach.
So the agreed commission was for a bespoke Pippy Oak Extending Refectory Table. The main table seats 8 formally, adding the extension leafs brings the number of seat placings to 12.
The table is as unique as the timber used and has its own natural identity which is formed from the beautiful pip and grain character of the Oak. Main table dimensions are 2.4m x 900mm. When extended the overall length is 3.3m.
The bespoke extending Refectory table arms are integral to the table base, so maybe pushed into the base when not in use. The extension leaves can also be stored separately when they are not in use.
One particular challenge was to maintain the light pale colour of the Oak chosen for the project which was required by the client. To achieve this, a clear hard wax oil was used as the finishing product, completed by a natural hard beeswax.
Completion
You can see the bespoke extending Refectory table in it’s the new setting in the pictures below which clearly show the natural beauty of the wood and the clean finish that the clients desired. The clients were incredibly happy with their table.
Client Comments:
